Greetings from Lampang, Thailand!! Today has been a very full day. We started the day out with a very large breakfast followed up with a day of orientation and planning. The days activities were coordinated by Tom Bohnert who is an anthropologist who works with many different countries in the region. We were trained on the work that we are here to do over the next six days. This exciting works involves prayer walking and finding and mapping area christian churches, Buddist Wats, and other religious sites. We will also have the opportunity to survey local people about their religious views, their views of Christianity, their homelife, and other items of interest to the IMB field personnel. We are the first group to ever do this type of "cutting edge" work here in Thailand. In fact, many of our plans are tentative, depending on how this goes.
As part of this project, we met our translator for the next week, Ja (see picture). Ja is a very nice christian Thai lady who lives in Bangkok and is very dedicated to the Lord's work here in Thailand. We thank the Lord for this very capable and dedicated servant that has agreed to assist us in this important work this coming week.
After a GREAT Thai lunch of fried chicken and other Thai goodies, we finished orientation and travelled to Lampang which is about an hour from Chiang Mai. We will be here for three nights before we travel on to Phrae (very near Mark's home). Please pray for our efforts tomorrow, especially for strength and wisdom as we walk this large town of Lampang.
Tonight, after arriving in Lampang, we sat down and had a great Thai dinner with a Baptist minister and his family from Lampang. It was very exciting for us, but especially for he and his family to meet us and see that we are here to assist him in his ministry here in Lampang. Please pray that God's hand will be with this minister, his family, and his ability to reach the Northern Thai people.
It was a day of training, but also a day of being brought up to speed on the work that is being done and planned for Northern Thailand. More updates tomorrow!!! good night --Thai Team
